That's it. I have had enough of "stream wars" - the ongoing destruction of broadcast TV and DVD/Blu-Ray in favour of moving movies, shows and documentaries onto exclusive streaming services. All designed to tie you into a subscription.
In this current climate of increasing poverty and the cost of living crisis, it's incredible and somewhat offensive that these companies are still bulldozing ahead with this scheme.
And a "scheme" it is. Scheming against the public, it's fucking disgraceful at best. The greedy bitches already charge the equivalent of the GDP of a developing nation, per year, to broadcasters such as Sky TV and Virgin Media to broadcast their shows or movies and now they want to take that away from the TV providers in a pathetic attempt to force us all to subscribe to their individual streaming services. It's shit. Instead of paying one subscription fee to a TV provider and being able to watch all the shows and movies you want, now you have to subscribe to the streaming service specific to the studio that created the show or movie.
At the very least it could spell the end of broadcast TV as we know it - the gravity of that is sad enough and I am not going to go into it in this particular post but it could spell the end of decades of ingenuity and technical discovery and rapidly blow away the legacies of those people that discovered/developed the foundations of what we now take for granted as TV.
At worst it could spell the end for all "screen" entertainment - if we lose TV as we know it because it has been superceded by streaming services, people simply will not be able to afford to subscribe to 30 different streaming services at £7 (or more) per month. Which means less money for the streaming content providers, which means less money for them to produce content and thus less content being produced - evetually leading to a downward spiral where streaming services disappear, major studios disappear and we are sent back to the age of radio once more (or more depressingly we are left simply with watching crap YouTube content made by dickheads).
All for the sake of some greedy fat bastards that want to rake in a few extra million pounds by forcing people to subscribe to be able to carry on watching shows.
It's Disney's fault as they were the first to pull all of their channels and content from TV services and place them on their newly launched Disney+ streaming service. That just had the effect that my kids no longer watch the Disney shows they used to love and they found other new TV shows to watch instead. I suspect kids are not alone in that, meanign a loss for Disney straight away.
I can never understand why these big businesses cannot see the bigger picture and can only see as far as the inside of their wallets.
If this is truly our fate, maybe covid19 should have done a better job - since the world seems to be regressing back to neanderthal times. Maybe that makes sense as scientists have been saying for years that the human race will come full circle.
In seriousness, I am glad that covid19 is now being tackled by vaccinations, I guess what Iam trying to say is; if we're going to continue bugger up everything and actually make stuff worse than it was, maybe it's time to leave this planet and find a better life a new unspoilt planet because now it seems that the greedy bitches of the world are on an unstoppable crusade to really fuck life and the planet up more and more in the quest for greater wealth.
Sad times
